Fickle Post 'Hakone-Ekiden'

What I'm talking from now on is old story a little. But I want you to know my memories. So please read it!

January 2 this year, I watched the Hakone-Ekiden directly. At 5:00 p.m. I got to Yomiuri Shimbun Company in Otemachi. Many people have already been around there. Fortunately I get a good place to watch. And I'm surprised to see announcers of the Nippon Television and former Ekiden runner Toshihiko Seko, who represented Waseda University, in front of me.

It was very exciting when start begun. Runner run faster than what I think. It was a moment. Afterward I ran after them from Tokyo station to Odawara station by Tokaido and Yokosuka Line. To be honest I was terribly exhausted. Thanks to do, I had muscle pains in my body.

Regrettably Meiji missed the seed right, which leads to the next year's Ekiden. But I had an enjoyable time.

I'm looking forward to next year.

Abe puts 'job on the line' over anti-terrorism law

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe returned to Japan on Monday and faced a heated Diet session after indicating he would resign if the anti-terrorism special measures law is not extended.

In Sydney, Abe said Sunday that extending the law, which allows the Maritime Self-Defense Force to refuel vessels in the Indian Ocean in the war against terrorism in Afghanistan, is Japan's responsibility to the international community.

"The situation in the Diet is extremely difficult, but I have great responsibilities now that it has become an international commitment, putting my job job on the line," he said.

Asked if the Cabinet would resign en masse if the MSDF activities are not extended past the anti-terror law's Nov. 1 expiry date, Abe said: "I must make every effort to carry out my responsibilities. Naturally, I will not cling to my duties (as prime minister)."

An extraordinary Diet session opened today in which the special measures law is expected to be the main topic of debate.

Opposition Minshuto (Democratic Party of Japan), which gained a majority in the Upper House after the July 29 election, plans to oppose the extension.

Abe was in Sydney for a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum.

On the sidelines, he met Saturday with President George W. Bush and said he will make every effort to continue the MSDF's refueling activities in the Indian Ocean.

Bush noted that Japan's cooperation is indispensable for the international community.

Abe told Sunday's news conference, "In submitting the bill (to extend the law), we will work to the fullest in order to obtain understanding, especially of Minshuto."

The prime minister also said he plans to seek a meeting with Minshuto President Ichiro Ozawa "as soon as possible."

On Saturday, Abe called the extension of the special measures law an "external commitment," saying the MSDF mission is Japan's responsibility to international society and stressed that it was not a commitment only to the United States.

He also said he was not thinking about dissolving the Lower House.(IHT/Asahi: September 10,2007)

My comment

Finally Prime Minister Abe referred to his duty. He adheres the extension of the anti-terrorism special measures law. Officially Abe told that Japan should cooperate with US in order to take off the threat of the terrorism and as a member of international community. But the bottom line is that Japan intends to solve the abduction issue connected with North Korea in cooperation with US.

At Six-Party Talks US comes to terms the removal North Korea from terrorism list instead of abandoning nucleus-related institutions. So I think US may change its position if US doesn’t regard the abduction issue as the national interest.

I’m wondering if the extension of the anti-terrorism special measures law serves the national interest for Japan.

On and on, I’m noticing that the current of Abe cabinet and Minshuto (Democratic Party of Japan).

About my future

3 stray cats in parking of the apartment house where I live(No reference to subject)

I want to mention myself. Now I'm considering my future well. I'm going to work in the financial world like bank, brokerage firm and general trading firm. But I don't abandon other possibilities. So I 'm puzzled about my future. Especially, I think what sense of value I should make a point of when I become office worker. Money, Promotion, Pride, There are various senses of value.

But I can say that I want to work abroad someday. In addition, I want to work in the changeable world. I believe that Changing is Growth, never destruction.

Do you think your future? I want to listen to it as possible!

http://www.asahi.com/english/Herald-asahi/TKY200709060067.html

THE ASAHI SHIMBUN

Top instant noodle maker Nissin Food Products Co. plans to increase product prices in January due to rising costs of wheat and other ingredients, officials said Wednesday.

The Osaka-based company will raise retail prices by 10-20 yen for most products shipped on or after Jan. 1.

The price of the mainstay product, Cup Noodle, will rise to 170 yen for the regular size, including tax, from 155 yen.(IHT/Asahi: September 6,2007)

My comment

I eat Cup Noodle at times. When I want something to eat, it's convenient that there is a Cup Noodle. We're familiar with it for a long time. So it may be natural to be surprised at the press release that Nissin plans to the increase product prices. I think it's the influence of increased grain prices accompanied with high demand for bio-ethanol.

"No border" The word indicates it's the symbol that Cup Noodle spread all over the world. It's just a Japanese representative food, and changed our food culture.

I'm afraid of the latest increase in price of a variety of products.

By the way, what kind of instant noodle do you like?

Staff officer-turned-business leader Sejima dies

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20070905TDY01003.htm

The Yomiuri Shimbun

Ryuzo SejimaRyuzo Sejima, a onetime member of the military elite who went on to become an influential business leader, died of old age early Tuesday at his home in Tokyo. He was 95.

Born in 1911 in Toyama Prefecture, Sejima graduated from the Military Staff College in 1938 and became an army staff officer at the Imperial General Headquarters the following year. Later serving concurrently as a navy staffer, he was involved in working out operational strategies for the Pacific War.

Sejima was captured by the then Soviet military at the end of the war and detained in a Siberia prisoner-of-war camp for 11 years after the war.

Returning to Japan in 1956, he joined Osaka-based trading house C. Itoh & Co. (currently Itochu Corp.) in 1958. After serving as vice president and vice chairman, he became chairman of the company in 1978. Three years later, he withdrew from the business front line and assumed the post of adviser.

In 1971, Sejima served as a mediator in a capital tie-up between Isuzu Motors Ltd. and General Motors Corp. The tie-up was dissolved in 2006. He was instrumental in absorbing another trading house, Ataka & Co., in 1977 and displayed his ability to expand Itochu's international business and to grow it into a general trading house.

Sejima served as an auditor of NTV and chairman of the board of directors of Asia University in Tokyo.

One of the brains behind former Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone, Sejima served as a secret envoy who did the spadework for Nakasone's surprise visit to Seoul in 1983--a key event in helping to restore then cool bilateral relations.

Sejima was a member of the ad hoc administrative reform council and acting chairman of the second ad hoc council for the promotion of administrative reform.

Sejima played a major role in laying the foundation for privatization of three major public corporations--the Japanese National Railways, Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, and Japan Tobacco and Salt Public Corporation.

He was decorated with the First Order of Sacred Treasure in 1984.

Sejima was often referred to as the key member of the "Showa brain trust" in recognition of his activities during the pre- and postwar times of the Showa era (1926-1989). Some people criticized Sejima's involvement in politics, however, citing his deep involvement in the war.

He is said to be one of the models for the main character of Toyoko Yamasaki's novel "Fumo Chitai" (Futile Zone), which describes the inside story of a trading house.

My comment

When I read the article about Ryuzo Sejima's Death, I know the man for the first time. I'm surprised to know that he was once an army staff of the Imperial General Headquarter during World War Ⅱ and chairman of the Itochu Corporation after war. I haven't heard about that interesting career, so I'm fascinated by him. I also want to teach audience his existence. In the Sankei newspaper, the novelist Toyoko Yamazaki said "he is very keen person. If I asked him about his Siberia prisoner-of-war camp for 11 years several times, he avoided referring to that." He had precious experiences for Showa period, so I regretted his death. Though he may have a responsibility of war, I can clearly say that he made great contributions for Japan. He had experienced the tempestuous Showa period. I want to follow his life. What do you think about this great man?
